National Undergraduate Art & Writing Contest 2023
Submissions are currently open until April 10th, 2023 at 11:59 PM.
General Guidelines
All undergraduate students in the United States, including students on gap years, are welcome to submit their work.
We only consider unpublished submissions. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please notify us immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere.
All work should be submitted to nasslit@princeton.edu, with the subject line “Contest Submission: [Genre],” replacing [Genre] with “Poetry,” “Prose,” or “Art.”
Submissions must be sent from an official college/university email account to verify enrollment status.
Do not put your name anywhere in the document title or within the document itself; we have a blind selection policy.
Try to keep your submission under 25 pages total.
Multiple works in the same genre should be submitted & attached accordingly in the same email.
Submit all works as attachments and not in the body of the email.
The Nassau Literary Review does not publish work that denigrates or harms any group based on gender identity, race, ethnicity, sexuality, nationality, socioeconomic status, ability, or other identities. This includes but is not limited to harmful stereotypes and characterizations. The editors reserve the right to remove such pieces from consideration. NassLit does not condone any discriminatory content.
Content Warnings: NassLit submissions are read by our staff readers, who are also undergraduate students. If you believe your work has content that may be distressing to some readers, please include a content warning at the top of the submission. Examples of such content include violence and assault.
Poetry:
The document(s) should be titled as follows: “Poetry_Title.”
Please attach every work as its own document, unless you would like your poems to be judged as a collection/suite. In that case, please also notify us in the body of the email. Set your text to 12pt. Times New Roman (or a similar font).
Please try to submit .doc or .docx files. If, however you are working with a particularly unique form and require sending in a PDF, you may do so.
We accept translations. Please note them in the email.
Prose:
The document(s) should be titled as follows: “Prose_Title_WordCount.”
Please attach every work as its own document in the email. Set your text to 12 pt. Times
New Roman (or a similar font). Prose should be double spaced.
Please submit only .doc or .docx files.
We accept plays, screenplays and translations. Please note them in the email.
Art:
Your art files should be named as follows: “[Medium]_Title.” If your title is long/complicated, feel free to list their proper names in the body of the email.
The resolution of any image submitted must be at least 300 dpi.
If you want to submit an image to be a one-page spread, it must be at least 600 dpi.
If possible, do not send us art in JPEG or GIF formats, as they will inevitably be lower-quality than a PNG, TIF, or PSD image due to compression.
